‘I took my neighbor’s dog to the pound – she doesn’t take care of him’

A dog lover recently took to Reddit to share a dilemma they faced regarding their neighbor’s pet.
The user explained that their 55-year-old neighbor, despite her love for her dog, was unable to provide adequate care.
The dog was often left in the yard, barking day and night, without food or water, and infested with fleas. Despite the neighbor’s claims of the dog enjoying the outdoors, the user observed the animal looking miserable in the extreme heat.
“I suggested she let him stay in the garage due to the heat, but she insisted he liked it outside even though he clearly didn’t,” the user shared.
Attempts to bring the dog into their own yard proved futile as the dog wasn’t well-trained and could be aggressive towards strangers.
In response, the user decided to report the situation to the local dog pound, citing neglect. The pound subsequently removed the dog from the premises.
Many fellow Reddit users commended the decision, with one commenting: “Good job, that dog was likely going to die at her hands, you saved its life.”
Another individual commented: “You did the right thing. You tried to talk to her and it made no difference. I couldn’t sit and watch a dog being neglected either. I don’t think she loves the dog, she just wants people to think she is the kind of person who loves dogs.”
However, another person disagreed, stating that the pound isn’t a good place for the dog either.
“You may very well have just got that dog killed. There’s far better ways to resolve that situation.”
